Sides spar in Costley case Prosecution says driver was drunk, defense claims speeding was cause By Michael Sullivan GALLUP — Witnesses and accident investigators of the spectacular vehicle crash on Sept. 23, 2009, that resulted in the death of Scott Costley tended to support the prosecution’s position that an intoxicated Daryl Begay turned in front of Costley’s oncoming vehicle; but defense attorney Emeterio Rudolfo attempted to shift responsibility for the collision from his client to the victim.
